9 Rad Things from July 2019

Did July even happen?? I don’t mean that from a time sure flies perspective, but more to the point that in dumped rain in Seattle for the majority of July. I suppose it’s better from the constant heat and smoke of Summer 2018, but… can’t we find a happy medium?

As I was looking over my list of picks from July 2019 I realized how deeply in love I had fallen with all of them. It truly feels like I’ve been using them for more than a few weeks! Don’t even get me started on the cleanser, guys. I know that it’s spendy, but this shit has literally changed my skin. Where was this when I was 15?

It should com as no surprise that I snuck a CBD product in, but I just can’t help myself. Plus - I know a lot of you are anxious about using CBD for the first time (tips here!) and I liked this as a good introductory option that doesn’t require you to go to a pot shop.

Let’s dig in.

9 RAD THINGS FROM JULY 2019

(Featuring a top book from 2019, a natural alternative to shower spongers, custom pet art, and more!)

Items are listed in numerical order left to right, top to bottom.

  1. Eminence Mangosteen Daily Resurfacing Cleanser - I recently got a facial at Spruce Apothecary and when my specialist asked about my skincare routine I was like umm… soap? To make a long and boring story short, I was using crappy products on my face. I switched to this Eminence Mangosteen Daily Resurfacing Cleanser a few weeks ago and already my skin is a lot smoother and less inflamed. The old product I was using was so abrasive to my skin that it was causing my face to freak out! No thanks.

  2. “Tell Me Lies” - Ahh! This might be my favorite book of 2019, and I have read quite a few of them. It was recommended by Nicole Pearce of Pumps + Iron (my fave!) . So far I have loved every book that she’s suggested, and it did not dissappoint. If you were in college in the early 2000’s, this will take you right back.

  3. OLEO Flavorless CBD additive* - I recently tried OLEO CBD as part of my collaboration with Bartell Drugs and have fallen in love with their products. A lot of you have asked me for CBD recommendations that don’t require going to a pot shop. OLEO Flavorless CBD additive mixes in to liquid in powder form. It’s totally flavorless but provides the same relief as any type of CBD. I like mixing it into my morning smoothies in addition to my protein powder.

  4. GEM natural vitamins* - I’m a bit of a vitamin junkie. I purposefully avoid the supplement aisle of most drugstores, because the temptation to stock a cart full of pill bottles is just too tempting. Vitamins just feel so full of possibility. GEM is a superfood vitamin bite that’s about as large as a block of chocolate. Rather than taking a bunch of pills, you just pop on GEM square for the day. I’ve noticed in the month using GEM everyday I feel much calmer than usual.

  5. Custom dog pillow - In the wise words of Lizzo, turns out I’m 100% that bitch. I had the same pillowcase since my early college years, and it finally started turning to (literal!) shreds. I couldn’t find anything that matched our bedspread, so I said FUCK IT and ordered a case with Maxis face printed on it. The service was great, it arrived quickly, and it’s held up like a charm.

  6. OUAI Wave Spray - In case you haven’t figured this out, I don’t do much with my hair. In general I wash it and let it air dry. Real technical stuff! However, things never look as beachy chic as I think they will, so I brought this in for reinforcements. It also gives my hair a little boost the day after a wash when mixed with my best friend, Dry Shampoo.

  7. Natural Loofah Sponge* - Recently I watched a YouTube video about how Loofah Sponges are grown and felt ridiculous that I didn’t know they were- you know- a living thing and not a plastic ball of floof on a string. I’m a big believer in being conscious about finding sustainable options for the products we use regularly, and this fit the bill.

  8. Pulse H2Oh! Lube* - I’ll just leave this here - it’s really, really good. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  9. Foam Roller - A few weeks ago, after too much spin class and too little stretching, I messed up my back by letting my psoas muscle get too tight. The only think that could get it to relax was a dedicated foam rolling routine. I roll for anywhere from 5-10 minutes a day and it’s a huge help with chronic pain, muscle soreness, and relieving tension. This foam roller came from Amazon and was under $20 - it’s held up really well with daily use.
