Issue #18: Bye, 2018!

You guys, we did it. We have somehow made it to the end of 2018, the year that was so long that it seems like the 2018 Olympics happened like... 12 years ago. Good lord.
As we gear up for a brand spanking new year (it's going to be our best one yet, don't you think?) this is your friendly reminder to be kind to yourself, particularly if you are the type that likes to set insane New Years resolutions. I find this time of year to be really overwhelming on social media. Everybody seems to be committing to losing a ton of weight, learning new languages, or moving into vans. I get it. I too am an extreme person. I like to set big goals. This is just my reminder to you to set yourself up for success when you create your resolutions- if you're into that sort of thing. So maybe instead of saying I'm going to go to yoga every day in 2019 you change it to I am going to go to try to go to two yoga classes a week in 2019. That way you aren't setting yourself up for failure, you've got a ton of wiggle room to work with, and you probably will end up being an over achiever and go to three classes a week anyway. Get what I'm saying?
Plus, you're pretty fucking cool already.
See you next year!
picks of the week
pretty rad things
When did self-care become so much damn work? “We are approaching the pursuit of work-life balance with the same obsessive (and oppressive) energy as we do our careers.” Oops! More on Harvard Business Review.
“I just wanted to say hi and tell you thank you so much for the 5 day journaling prompts :) Suuuuuper super enjoyed it and it got me out of a funk and energized to keep it up!” Real life message that I got from one of you sweet thangs this week after finishing my 5 Day Journal Guide. Free-ninety-nine, self-guided, and a totally rad way to ring in the New Year.
And if you want to make a bigger commitment… My friend Kate designed Rooted The Journal. Journaling pages, a planner, places to focus on your intentions, and a cycle tracker. What more could a girl want?
Your dollars at work. Where you spend your money counts for a lot. Not sure where to start? Intentionalist can help you out. I interviewed Intentionalist founder Laura Clise recently about her vision for 2019 and how YOU can make a difference. Read more here.
No shame. Shame is a powerful emotion. I love this podcast featuring Rachel Hollis about shifting out of shame and into your own power. It’s a long one, but worth a listen. Also, her book is RAD.

Persona Nutrition is a vitamin company based in Washington State that creates custom vitamin recommendations. They also are delightful to work with. They’re made with FreshCap Mushroom extracts to keep you feeling energized, healthy, and vibrant alllll day long. Shop their line of extract powders here.
2019 is the year of the side hustle. Ready to make a little cash money when you aren’t at your desk? No, I’m not trying to sign you up for a pyramid scheme. I love-love-LOVED this piece from Buzzfeed about what it’s like to have a side hustle. #TooReal
Don’t buy that. Ever feel pressured to buy things in the quest of feeling better? Well, you aren’t alone. This journalist went so far as to try ALL THE THINGS for a full week and still felt pretty meh. Don’t let the internet bully you.
quote of the moment
"I'm not even going to talk about my goals for the New Year. Just sit back and watch."
