3 CBD Topicals Your Body Will Thank You For
Unless you’ve been living under a rock or don’t have internet access (HOW ARE YOU READING THIS?!) I think that it’s safe to assume that you’ve heard of CBD, the new craze in wellness land. If you haven’t, CBD is the non-psychoactive component of cannabis. It gives you all of the rad benefits that, say, smoking a doobie might, without getting you hight at all. Not sure it’s legit?
HERE’S WHAT THE EXPERTS ARE SAYING:
“Studies have shown that the cannabinoids like CBD in marijuana are anti-inflammatory and anti-aging and topical CBD has proven helpful for acne, eczema, and psoriasis.” - Jeanette Jacknin, MD.
“CBD cannabinoids are anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-spasmodic, and they enhance circulation and cellular regeneration.” - Chiropractic Economics
“CBD works in our bodies by directly affecting the Endocannabinoid System, more commonly known as the ECS. The ECS acts like a control tower in our bodies, telling molecules where to go and what to do so our bodies stay balanced. The body produces cannabinoids as well, these are called endocannabinoids. The ECS helps regulate functions such as sleep, immune-system responses, and pain.” - Mad Ritual Blog
“Science has confirmed that cannabis is an effective pain reliever, reinforced in a massive new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.” - Shape Magazine
“A report studied CBD use for general chronic pain. Researchers compiled the results of multiple systematic reviews covering dozens of trials and studies. Their research concluded that there is substantial evidence that cannabis is an effective treatment for chronic pain in adults.” - Medical News Today
I LOVE CBD. So much that I was introduced at an event recently as a CBD blogger. Oops! CBD helps me with my anxiety, has helped to ease the discomfort left over from my car accident, helps me sleep better, and more. CBD has actually been a game changer for me. In high school I was diagnosed with a condition called Interstitial Cystitis (IC), also known as painful bladder syndrome. IC is a super fun and chill condition that basically causes my bladder, for no reason at all, to sometimes feel like it is on fire. If you’ve ever had a UTI before, IC feels like a UTI times one million. Like a UTI got REALLY amped up. Thankfully my IC doesn’t flare up particularly often, but when it does it can be completely debilitating. Throughout high school and college I would struggle through my flares using over the counter things like bladder pain meds and anti-inflammatories, but nothing ever really worked. It wasn’t until I started using CBD (both topically on my abdomen and ingesting it) was I able to find something that eased my symptoms.
I’ve tried a lot of CBD topicals in my quest for relieving my muscles and my IC symptoms. These are three of my favorites that I’ve found to be most effective, and also aren’t CRAZY expensive. They are each brands I really believe in and ALL of them have brought me a lot of relief. I hope that they help you, too!
MAD RITUAL CBD RECOVERY BALM
Mad Ritual is owned by my friends, Amy & Jess, and was my first dip into CBD topicals. I’ll be the first to admit that I was skeptical about being able to feel the benefits of CBD applied topically, but BOY was I wrong. These tins are small and mighty. Their unscented balm is featured here, but I also love their peppermint or lavender scents. I find both to be super calming.
What I love about it: Mad Ritual is owned by my friends, and I LOVE supporting my friends! Outside of that, though, I love the consistency of this balm. It’s not too slippery or waxy, and a little goes a LONG way. One small scoop is enough to cover a lot of skin and usually lasts for a few hours. The tin is small enough to fit into a pocket of my purse, where it pretty much ALWAYS lives. One tin is $40.
Ned Hemp Infused Body Butter
I was first introduced to the Ned brand of hemp CBD products through their full spectrum hemp oils, which I’ve written about before. I find ingesting CBD to be really helpful for my anxiety, for better sleep, and also for any symptoms associated with my period. When Ned launched their body butter they sent me a sample to try and I LOVE it. It is lightly scented, but the scent is very subtle and I rarely, if ever, notice the smell when I’m wearing it.
What I love about it: This little tub is about the size of a tub of Vaseline, so it lasts me a LONG time. Since it is larger, I usually leave the body butter at home on my night stand. The consistency is a little slicker than Mad Ritual, so I usually use this body butter if I need to cover a larger part of the body, like my lower back or my glutes. Since it is a little more oily, I like to use Ned on my body before I go to bed since it can slide around. When I put it on tender areas (such as my neck) before bed it helps me sleep like a LOG. One tub is $52.
CBD Living Freeze
CBD Living Freeze is a topical roll-on that includes 120 mg of full-spectrum nano-CBD, as well as cooling menthol and tea tree oil for immediate soothing and extended pain relief. If you’ve ever used products like Icy Hot or Tiger Balm before, Freeze has similar cooling sensation but with the added punch of CBD. Freeze also uses more natural ingredients than the more traditional products mentioned, so I’ve found that it’s a more pleasant cooling sensation vs. an OMG AM I DYING IS MY SKIN ON FIRE sensation. You get me?
The bottle is about the same size as roll-on deodorant. This is my heavy hitter for sore muscles, specifically muscles that are sore from a killer workout.
What I love about it: I love being able to use a product that rolls on to my muscles, so that I don’t have to wash my hands after covering my body. The cooling sensation lasts for a surprisingly long time, which makes me feel like the CBD is truly working to relax my muscles. The cooling sensation mimics the sensation of putting ice on your body, so it can be helpful with inflammation, too. Remember how good the cold can be for your body? Freeze is also the least expensive of the three products listed here, it retails for $30.
Sorry friends, no discount codes for CBD Living… yet!
Do you have a CBD brand or product that you love? I would love to know what your experience has been with using CBD, and (obvi) any great product recommendations that you have!
