Issue #15: Adulting So Hard

adulting so hard

This week I went to Disneyland and it made me realize how much time I've spent adulting lately. As I spun on the teacup ride (like the basic bitch I am), I realized how stressed I had been feeling and what a joy it was to just... be silly. It was such a much needed release. I realized that I don't make play a very big priority in my day-to-day. Maybe you feel like this too. I mean, we are all adulting our brains out. Especially during the madness of the holiday season, I am going to make more of an effort to be playful. It was so worth it.

Last week I launched the #DDWeeklyChallenge. Each week I'll introduce a new, simple challenge that is designed to improve your personal wellness. We will do this through things like mindfulness, easy exercises, fun reading recommendations, and more. None of it will take you much time or cost you a penny. I hope these challenges bring you joy and make you feel 100%. You deserve it.

This week your challenge is your challenge is to take 15 minutes to yourself every day. Just for you. This might mean a quick walk with your favorite podcast on, a long shower, or just some time with your door closed doing absolutely nothing. Use this time to recharge, to touch base with yourself, to calm down, or whatever you need. Don't feel guilty about it. It's only 15 minutes, and it's alllll for you.

Now go adult your face off,

pretty rad things

New on the Donuts + Down Dog blog: I tried a shampoo bar to cut down on plastic waste and I love it so much! I also put all of my favorite things from Fall 2018 in one neat little package for you here

#GETHEALTHY2019. Do you have intentions to swap up your health routine in the New Year? I've been using Persona Vitamins (they're based in WA!) for the last two weeks and am IN LOVE. I took an in-depth quiz about my lifestyle and habits, and then was given recommendations by a team of doctors, nutritionists, and more. They've made me feel more energized in the mornings and less stressed in the evening. Worth a try!

Going Keto sounds like my nightmare. SAME! I loved this post from the Bon Appetit blog on the realities of a Keto diet when it comes to being social.

Let's get that holiday cheer rolling right... now. Ready for some tears? I love this story about a girl with Brittle Bone disease who was adopted by parents of the same diagnosis. The perfect happy cry to start your week with.

Still not sure about CBD? The New York Times has some thoughts

WTF is my credit score? Are you a millennial with no idea what to do with all that cash money your tech job is racking in? Student loans confusing the shit out of you? This blog is dedicated to  personal finance and career tips for the millennial woman and is 100% worth your time.

Celery juice isn't doing shit for you. Or maybe it is. IDK. Somebody try it and let me know. More thoughts here.

Exercise has come a long way since 1961. Thank god we don't have to wear heels anymore.

But some things haven't changed. Like the stunt-double industry, for one. Read how a veteran stuntwoman was blacklisted from the industry.

Shop small this holiday season. If you're starting to send out holiday cards, consider purchasing these cute cards from my dear friend at Paupy Studios. The dog one is my favorite, obvi.

You know how I feel about journaling. My friend Kate designed the Rooted Planner that is designed to make you feel grounded in 10 minutes or less. You'll feel more productive, less stressed, and keep track of your goals all in one.

quote of the moment

“Mindfulness is the aware, balanced acceptance of the present experience. It isn’t more complicated than that. It is opening to or receiving the present moment, pleasant or unpleasant, just as it is, without either clinging to it or rejecting it.” ~Sylvia Boorstein
