GIVEAWAY! Ease your mind with these Essentials Oils

I'm going to be honest here- I used to think that essential oils were such a scam. I thought that they were completely hippy-dippy and vowed that I would never become one of those terrible yogis that was always going on about how great they were. I used to roll my eyes so hard at the dude who made deodorant out of essential oil. Hygiene, guys! I mean, modern medicine was created for a reason, right? There was no way that any ailment could be healed with just a few drops of oil. It was too good to be true.  It had to be a total waste of money.

I felt like that until I started getting really, really awful migraines. I pray, sweet dudes, that you have never had a migraine because they fucking suck. When I get a migraine I essentially feel like my brain is on fire. I spend a lot of time in bed with the lights off. When migraines were still a problem for me I would take lots of migraine pills from the pharmacy that didn't really do anything. I was getting so discouraged that I started whining about it on my Instagram (as one does...) and my sweet yogi/student/gal-pal Melissa told me to put some peppermint essential oil on the roof of my mouth. I mean, seriously? I had tried everything modern medicine had to offer and that wasn't working, why would this be any better?

But, of course, it worked like a charm for me and I felt my migraine melt away. I literally have not had a migraine since. Not one single one. When I feel one coming on I run to my peppermint oil, throw it back like a shot of tequila, and feel myself transcend space and time. If you can't tell, I have become 500% committed (the common metric that I use for success, obvi) to using essential oils in my life when applicable. I want to dive right in.

Essential oils aren't for everybody (honestly, is anything?) but can be a really lovely addition to your lifestyle and wellness routines. I'm trying to kick my hardcore caffeine addiction right now and find that putting a few drops of grapefruit oil in my coffee gives me the kick I need without dehydrating the crap out of me. I also really love diffusing lavender oil in my bedroom (read: v professional home office) when I'm starting to feel stressed and need to chill out. Nothing says true zen like lavender essential oil and still not wearing a bra at 1 PM.

Some of my favorite diffusers are:

When buying essential oils, I like to remind people of a few things because it can be a little intimidating.

Quality first. Don't by random oils off the internet, especially if you plan on ingesting them. When in doubt, ask an oil expert. Melissa is mine, and she can totally be yours too! Just pop over to her Instagram and ask away. Remember, these are to help you take care of yourself. And you, my dude, only deserve the fucking best.

A little goes a LONG way. I realize that 10 ml seems like nothing, but that is going to last you for 5 million years. I'm serious. I go through a lot of oils (I like to spray them on my yoga mat) and I rarely ever have to buy new ones. They can be a little spendy, but know that you only need a few drops to get the desired effect you are looking for. Otherwise, you will go completely overboard.

When in doubt, research. Essentially: don't be stupid. There is actually a lot of medical research out there on essential oils now (hallelujah!) so that you, as a consumer, can make choices that are actually informed. Not every oil is meant to go on your skin or be ingested, so check first before you put yourself in a position that could be potentially uncomfortable.
